A guide to eating: Smoothie Bowl

You've probably seen this trend everywhere on Instagram and Pinterest, of people having perfectly decorated smoothie bowls for their super healthy breakfast! When I first saw them, I literally thought I'dnever be able to make one because they look so 'instagrammy.' However, after a bit of experimenting, I realised they are super simple to make. Here's a really easy recipe that you can adapt to use up whatever you have in your kitchen! Below is one of my favourite smoothie bowls!

I've put the ingredients I usually use in bold, but feel free to use the other ingredients I've suggested instead, or use any other things you like!

Ingredients

Smoothie/base:

1 banana | 1 peach | Handful blueberries | 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder | 1 tsp wheatgrass powder | 1tbsp chia seeds | Roughly 130 ml liquid. This can be: Water, Coconut water, Milk (cow, almond, hazelnut, coconut - basically any), Tea - like green tea

.....but my favourites are either coconut water or almond milk

Topping:

Choose 3/4 from:

1/2 banana | handfull coconut pieces | handful granola | handful raisins | handful mixed nuts | almond flakes | dark chocolate shavings | raspberries, blueberries |

Or anything else you want! I always have extra banana on mine, usually with granola, raisins and berries

Things like the cinnamon/chia seeds/ wheatgrass don't make much difference. The cinnamon adds flavour but I only add in the wheatgrass and chia for nutritional benefit - and they don't taste of much either!

Method

1. Wash and prepare all fruit, then cut into rough pieces. Peel the banana, wash the blueberries, destone the peach - but keep on the peach skin for extra nutrients

2. Place all fruit in the blender/nutri bullet

3. Add all the other ingredients.

With the liquid, you will need enough to form a smoothie, but you want it very thick in order to act as a support/base for the rest of the smoothie bowl. I do this by adding the liquid up to around halfway where the fruit is in the cup.

4. Blitz till smooth and spoon into a bowl

5. Prepare any fruit you are going to use for the top. Cut all the fruit into very thin slices. If you use raspberries/blueberries then you don't need to cut them : )

6. Arrange the fruit on top of the bowl, then sprinkle on all the other toppings - I love experimenting with the way I lay fruit ontop to make everything look super pretty!

7. Enjoy!

* I found that making smoothie bowls is very experimental, in that some flavour combinations won't work for you, and some you will absolutely adore! Also there's so many different textures, so play around till you find the ones you love. For example I prefer banana on top rather than things like grapes or more watery fruit.
